Good morning and welcome to Trudy TV. Today I'd like to share with you my number one secret for skyrocketing your sales, creating buzz in your business, and building credibility.
The top secret that I'd like to share with you today is how to get yourself listed on published annual "best of" lists. There are lots of magazines out there, especially online ones, who like to create buzz with their own community by having voting, getting people to nominate businesses that they think are the best in the city. And I've done this with a number of my own businesses, and it's really easy to do. It's great for your business because, let's face it, everyone likes to win stuff.
So it's great to have your business listed. It creates buzz for your own business. The publishers generally give you free editorial material, so images to use on your website, decals to use on your doors or windows if you own a bricks and mortar shop and it builds credibility for your business like nothing else, even better than testimonials in my opinion. And it's great for brand awareness. Cause when people go to Google and they type "best of" whatever, so let's say they're looking for "the best spa in Toronto", when they type that into Google, these lists generally come up, and voila, your business is listed there as well.
But how do you do it? It sounds difficult, I know. Because you would think that publishers are going around the city, and finding the businesses themselves, and then deciding on who's the best, and who they want listed. But generally they are trying to create a lot of interaction within their own audience and communities.
So actually at a certain point in the year, they'll send out a nominations list. And they'll get their audience to put in nominations for which businesses they think are the most amazing that they visit regularly.
So the first thing to do is get yourself on the email list of the publication that you want to be listed on. Because that's where you'll hear about that they're calling for nominations for businesses. Next, they will send out the list of final nominations and they'll get their audience to vote. So with both of those stages, when you find out that they're asking for nominations, you want to put in your nomination, obviously. But it's also a good idea to ask some of your friends or clients to also put in a nomination for you, to make sure you actually get onto that final list. Then, once they send out the voting, you want to craft some really nice status updates, about three or four to go out on your social media websites. And those need to be done with a little bit of humor. You don't want to sound annoying and nagging, please vote for me, please vote for me. Put a bit of humor into it. You know you're being a little bit annoying, you know, so, chalk it up, call it what it is, and send out those status dates in timely intervals to remind people please go and vote.
The other thing to do, is craft only one email to go out to your subscriber list. Now, people on your subscribe list, they love you, they care about what you're doing, but they don't want to be nagged at voting for you. So, one email, send it out, and put very, very clear instructions, where do they go, how do they vote, what do you need them to do. Three or four steps, make it super easy for them, make it a no-brainer, and that's it. And then, sit back, wait, hope that you got enough votes that have come in, and that you've made the list. But in my experience, you know, it's, it's one email, a few status updates, it's more than enough to get you on a list.
